This is an Western American style Raku piece which stems from the Japanese Tea Ceremony Raku practice. This ceramic technique that is known for its unique and unpredictable results. Each piece of raku pottery is unique, and no two pieces are exactly alike. The raku glazing process involves removing the pottery from the kiln while it is still red hot and placing it in a container of sawdust. The resulting flames and smoke create a unique and unpredictable glaze pattern on the pottery.
